For the past two summers in Kansas we have invited some of our teen campers back to our Leaders-in-Training Camp. Leadership in God’s kingdom is all about serving. This is significant as campers transition from being served to serving others. Leaders in training learn to wash dishes, mop floors, clean bathrooms and a whole lot more. We also have Bible classes where we talk about how to share the good news, how to know God’s leading, and other spiritual disciplines.
One of these students was Jenny, a camper who had trusted Christ and was baptized at camp last year. At one of our goal setting times we asked Jenny where she wanted to grow the most. Jenny said she wanted a stronger relationship with God. I asked her what her relationship is like right now. I almost cried as Jenny told me how Jesus was a part of every moment of her day. Jenny shared how she was always talking with Him. Reading her Bible was also important to Jenny. She then shared how she struggled with over analyzing her day.
After we talked for a bit Jenny decided that her growth goal would be asking Jesus what He thought she did well and where she could grow. Jenny realized that she couldn’t please everyone but if Jesus was happy, she would be too. Later that week Jenny was accepted to serve on staff where she continued to grow.
This summer we had 10 former campers serving on staff and we couldn’t have done camp without them.
And to think that just a year ago Jenny had just come to faith.

Children of prisoners are likely the most vulnerable children alive today. But their parents' sentences don't have to be theirs. We have found a week of camp can be a life changing experience, as these children find their true identity and discover that they are never alone.
